Substitute teachers provide a valuable service to the Morgan County Charter Schools. We appreciate your interest in becoming a substitute teacher. The following information is provided to help you complete the application process.
Qualifications
Individuals: a) with one (1) or more years of post-secondary education or b) who have received a passing score on the paraprofessional assessment test approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, or c) who possesses a valid teaching certificate, will be considered for a substitute teacher position. A copy of your transcript is required before you are hired. If you qualify based on passing the assessment test, a copy of your score report is required. If you are a certified teacher, a certificate ID number is required. It is recommended that you "upload" these documents in the "Attachments" section of the application.
In addition to the online application, a Certificate of Completion of Substitute Teacher Training (exemption may apply see instructions below) and results of a criminal background/fingerprinting conducted through the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office are required. Additional information regarding the training class and obtaining the criminal background check is provided below.
Substitute Teacher Training Class (online or in-person)
If you are a certified teacher or licensed Georgia Paraprofessional, you will not be required to complete the substitute training class.

If you prefer to complete the class in person, please read the instructions below.
A training class conducted by Northeast Georgia RESA (NEGA RESA) is required. Classes are conducted at the main office of NEGA RESA and at various offices of surrounding counties served by NEGA RESA. Please visit the website of NEGA RESA https://www.negaresa.org/substitute-teacher-training or call (706) 742-8292 to determine the date and location of an available session.
After the four-hour class, you are required to complete a classroom observation in one or more of the Morgan County Schools. Contact the Human Resources Department for instructions for completing the classroom observation.
Criminal Records Check/Fingerprinting
Morgan County School Board Policy and Georgia State Law require that all staff undergo fingerprinting and criminal records check at the time of employment. This requirement applies to all employees of the Morgan County Board of Education including part-time, substitute, and temporary employees.
Payment for Fingerprinting
The Georgia Crime Information Center charges $43.25 for processing fingerprints in conjunction with a criminal records check. Payment must be in the form of a cashier’s check or money order made payable to “Morgan County Board of Education”. The charge of $43.25 will not be reimbursed to a new employee or substitute.
The payment must be delivered to the Morgan County Board of Education Central Office at 1065 East Avenue, Madison, Georgia. Payment will be accepted Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. excluding holidays.
Scheduling the Fingerprinting
Instructions for scheduling the fingerprinting will be provided with the receipt for payment of the fee. The original receipt will be required at the fingerprinting appointment. Please schedule the appointment immediately with the Morgan County Sheriff's Department (706)342-1507 after payment because there can be up to a two-week wait time for an appointment. |
